Director: Rajkumar Hirani
Cast: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Mona Singh, Parikshat Sahni and Javed Jaffrey‘Idiot’ , truly what an honor to be called one in today’s time. It wouldn’t be so if it weren’t Rajkumar Hirani’s sheer genius approach to redefining the word most commonly considered an insult . Hirani blends in the trio of ‘Rang De Basanti’- Aamir, Sharman and Madhavan to bring forth this one.
What amazes you even more is that the ‘Munnabhai ‘ director retains the very same team to provide you with yet another masterpiece.
Cinematography- C.K.Muraleedharan (what a splendid job he does in capturing the beautiful locales of Ladakh, shimla etc..which really adds to the road trip quotient of the film)
Music- Shantanu Moitra ( if he bowled you over with ‘Pal Pal’ n ‘Bande mein tha dumm..vande mataram’..here he takes you over with ‘Sunshine’ , ‘Zoobi Doobie’, ‘All izz well’)
Lyrics- Swanand Kirkire ( has penned some amazing lines especially for ‘Behti hawa’ n ‘Sunshine’…really stirs you up)
And whats amazing about any Rajkumar Hirani film is that ‘Raju’ splendidly handles- the screenplay, direction and editing ..this time the dialogues too. HATS OFF to him.
All as been said about the movie being inspired from Chetan Bhagat’s ‘5point someone’ but nevertheless its Raju’s personal touch that makes this film one worth remembering for ages.
Of course the immense marketing for the film spearheaded by Aamir Khan would make people call it an Aamir film but let’s get it clear that ‘3idiots’ by no chance can be attributed to only-Aamir,Sharman or Madhavan rather it truly belongs to the 4th idiot –Rajkumar Hirani.
Hirani firstly risks it in the casting of 3faces whose first appearance on screen would make someone say-‘Rang de Basanti’ but in no manner are these characters similar to the ones in RDB. Secondly, Casting Boman Irani as the bad guy repeatedly after the Munnabhai series would have been such a risk ,as masses would call Boman a mere stereotype. But, indeed Raju carefully pens down Boman’s character as ‘Viru Sahastrabuddhe’ with the mad Einstein look and the lisp , accompanied by the militarian attitude towards ‘Success’.
Well, what’s the movie about?
Many say its another ‘Taare Zameen Par’ for the youth. Hmmmm…..’3idiots’ is much more- a laugh riot , a masala flick , mass entertainer , insightful look at the education system , battle of ‘Success’ v/s ‘Excellence’, highly inspiring.
Indeed there are certain aspects of the film that can be considered really silly such as the – pregnancy scene towards the end , the baby kicking on saying ‘All izz well’ , the depiction of Sharman’s paralyzed dad and driving the scooter into the hospital etc…. but there are many many remarkable scenes and power packed dialogues that makes this movie memorable for years to come.
Here are some reasosn/scenes:
Hats off to actor Omi Vaidya who played ‘Ramalingam’ – the typical nerd you would find in the engineering setup. Omi was simply brillaint and Hirani brought out the best in him. No one will forget the ‘Balatkar’ speech for ages to come.
Hats off to Boman , for keeping it as real as possible(especially when he tries to make Sharman and Maddy go against Aamir) yet entertaining…especially the shaving bit-‘low productivity’ bit.
The wedding crasher experience
The dialogues-especially “ Excellence ke peeche bhaago , success khud jhaak marke apne aap peeche bhagegi”
The scene where the 3 drunk sit together and Aamir advices them on doing things they are passionate about – be it photography or doing away with fears(and encourages Sharman to do away with the stone rings)
The examination scene where the papers are to be collected by the professor
And many more
Out and out a must watch for every parent , student (like the answer Aamir gives for students when they think of commiting suicide….the scene where Maddy goes home to talk to his dad about his passion..loved that dialogue on “Mr.kapoor kya sochenge?”).
On the acting front Aamir, Sharman and Madhavan are at their peak. Kareena is ok.Love the way the movie ends….some may complain about the length….just keep enjoyin it.
The new records of the movie at the Box-office say it all and the weekday collections higher than weekend speaks a lot more,,,, 50 crores in barely 4 days is remarkable.
