I still don’t know why when discussions come up for sexiest women in the world Kate Beckinsale isn’t an automatic starting point. The woman is just ridiculously sexy. Watch this video she just did for Flaunt magazine and tell me you disagree. I mean, there’s a reason she topped our reader poll for hottest actress working today earlier this year. Yet, for some reason FHM and Maxim didn’t even have her in their top 100. How quickly we forget I guess. Screw Jennifer Aniston, when’s the new Underworld movie coming out?

Dharmendra

Dharmendra (or Dharaminder (Dharam) Singh Deol) was born on 8 December 1935 in Sahnewal, Punjab. At the peak of his film career he was considered a matinee idol, and was among the 10 most handsome men in the world at that time. Dharmendra remained a top Hindi film star for three decades creating an influential image as a markedly North Indian (Punjabi) macho man devoted to his mother and committed to upholding the honour of his family or the village.

Dharmendra was fascinated with films right from childhood, often travelling miles to frequent the touring cinema. (He remembers going to see Dillagi (1949) starring Suraiya at least 40 times!). He was married at the age of 19 and took up a job with an American Drilling Company boring tubewells. Fortunately for him, he was noticed in a Filmfare spot-the-talent contest and came to Bombay to become an actor. He was signed by Arjun Hingorani for Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere, his first film as hero for Rs 51 as signing amount and a daily breakfast that was to contain strictly of tea, two toasts and butter but no jam! Ironically, after all the struggle he went unrecognized at the premiere of the film and sneaked back home on a train.

However strong, supporting romantic lead roles in women oriented films like Anpadh with Mala Sinha, Bandini and Soorat Aur Seerat , both with Nutan brought Dharmendra to the fore. A liaison with Meena Kumari saw the two of them starring together in a series of films.

Most of Dharmendra's earlier films were soft romantic films, many of which presented a secularized Hindustani version of Bengali literary stereotypes, starting with Bimal Roy's Bandini and continuing with Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 60s socials - Anupama , Manjhli Didi and Satyakam . He mainly played the nice, romantic, handsome hero.

He rose to fame as an Indian actor who appeared in more than 200 Hindi films since the early 1960s. Dharmendra married twice. His first marriage was to Prakash Kaur at the age of 19. He didn't divorce his first wife when he married his second wife, actress Hema Malini. The nickname of his marriage to Hema Malini says that he is Delawar Khan being united to Ayesha Bi. They are said to have fallen in love on the sets of Sholay  although they have made many films together before and after Sholay. His two sons by his first wife, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, are also successful actors. He has two daughters, starlet Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, by Hema Malini. His nephew Abhay Deol is also an actor.

Dharmendra has gone on record saying he did not believe the Mumbai film industry was a place suitable for girls. Where as Dharmendra was unperturbed by his sons Sunny and Bobby joining the industry, he was vocal about his displeasure regarding his daughter Esha's choice of profession.

Despite showcasing their background as proud Punjabi Jatts, members of the Deol family have publicy claimed that they belong to the Arya Samaj Hindu faith. There is further confusion as to Dharmendra's religion due to his marriage to Hema Malini in 1979, when he allegedly converted to Islam in order to legally marry her.

A village simpleton, Dharmendra always believed that everyone is good. But today, after so many years in the industry and after going through various experiences with people in life, he has no expectations whatsoever. "When you don't have expectations, you don't feel let down," he reasons. "And when you don't feel let down, you don't feel hurt." This principle has helped him cope with the industry's way of functioning.

Unlike some stars, this macho man doesn't believe in interfering as far as work is concerned. "I am a total professional," he says. "I'm also a director's actor. I believe the director knows best. My job is to act and I think I should stick to that."

However, his greatest weakness in life is boozing and despite several efforts, he has not been able to give it up. "It has been the biggest drawback in my life and it is the only thing that I haven't really been able to overcome," he admits. "It has caused me nothing but trouble. I have struggled all my life to get rid of it but I have never really succeeded. I have tried giving it up several times, only to hit the bottle with a vengeance again. If you construct a sentence on my life on drinking, you will find commas, question marks and exclamation marks but never a full stop."

Another major weakness has been his temper. "I have always been a temperamental person. Everything about me is projected in a big way. I am also very demonstrative. I show my affection in a big way. I get angry in a big way. Like drinking, I have tried to get rid of my anger too, but it is too much a part of me now. I have realised anger causes nothing but destruction. In a fit of anger I often act rashly and do things which I regret later." Once he got so angry that he picked up a journalist and bashed him on his head. "Immediately, I was filled with remorse and I regret that incident ever since."

With two successful actor sons, Sunny and Bobby in the industry, Dharmendra today, can choose to call it quits. But a firm believer in Nehru's 'Aaram hai haraam' slogan, he continues to enthrall the audience with his performances. "Work has always been my stimulant. Since childhood, films have been my dream world and today, I'm a major part of that world. I want to die with my make-up on," he says

Currently he is a member of the 14th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Bikaner constituency of Rajasthan and is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political party.

Feroz Khan

Friday, December 16, 2011

Feroz Khan was born in Bangalore on September 25, 1939 to a Pathan father, Sadiq, and an Iranian mother, Fatima. He has three brothers, Abbas alias Sanjay, Akbar, and Sameer. Both Sanjay and Akbar are actors within their own rights, while Sameer is a film-maker and assists in their Golden Palms Spa located in Bangalore.

Feroz Khan is famous for his styles and dressings. He made his entry on the silver screen in 1960 after his return from a Bangalore-based English medium school. His career initially started as a hero in 'Didi', then he signed up for villain roles, and then made a comeback as a hero again.

Feroz Khan noteworthy movies are Oonche Log, Main Wohi Hoon, Aag, Mela, Upasna, Aprsdh. He became even more popular after the release of Dharmatma, Qurbani, Jaanbaaz, & Dayavan. Feroz Khan got an award for his role in Aadmi Aur Insaan.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, he was the top Bollywood star in films and often directed and starred in many of his films. The movie Qurbani  was the biggest hit of his career and also launched the singing career of Nazia Hassan. In 1988 he directed and starred in Dayavan which was a remake of a South Indian film Nayagan which starred Kamal Hassan. After he directed and starred in Yalgaar, he took a long break from acting for 11 years and took to producing, directing and even editing a few films. Feroz Khan launched his son Fardeen Khan's career with the 1998 film Prem Aggan which was however a box office failure. Feroz Khan made a comeback to acting with his most recently produced and directed film Janasheen which also starred his son Fardeen Khan and had Feroz make his first film appearance in 11 years. He starred with his son again in Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena  which was not however directed by him.

Feroz Khan likes sports-car races and has included this sport in Apradh and then again in Janasheen. He prefers his character name to be either Rajesh or Rakesh. He is a worshipper of Bhagwan Shri Sai Baba and always wears a gold ring on his finger and has a picture close to him. Sai Baba is revered and worshiped by Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and Hindus in India.

Feroz Khan got married to Sundari in 1965 and they became proud parents of Laila and Fardeen. Despite objections raised by an Islamic Moulvi, Feroz and Sanjay got their children married to non-Islamic families. Laila was married to Rajpal, while Fardeen married Natasha Madhwani, the daughter of Mayur and former Bollywood hottie Mumtaz. Sundari and Feroz have been divorced since 1985.

Feroz has kept away from controversies, though he did get himself banned by the conservative Pakistani government.

Monday Apr 27, 2009 at 1:30am. Feroz Khan at the age of 70, lost his battle with cancer and passed away at his farmhouse in Bangalore. It was his wish to take his last breath in the city where he had born.

Tanuja (JamActor of India)

Tanuja was born in Mumbai into a family of four children as Tanuja Samarth to poet Kumarsen Samarth and his wife Shobhna Samarth. Her mother was a famous 1930s and 1940s actress. When she was very young her parents separated. Tanuja entered films as a child actress and continued working until 1973. She met director Shomu Mukherjee on the set of Ek Baar Muskara Do. A whirlwind romance ended in a 1973 marriage. They had two children: Kajol Mukherjee (b. 1975) and Tanisha Mukherjee (b. 1978). They were later divorced.

The younger sister of Nutan and one of the daughters of '40s actress Shobhana Samarth, Tanuja was known for her tomboyish behaviour on the sets, and a rebel image. Unlike most heroines, she refused to play games and chase after roles. If inspite of that, she was successful, only due to her talent. Her films included 'Jeene ki Raah', 'Jeeo aur Jeene Do', 'Do Chor', 'Mome ki Gudiya', 'Mere Jeevan Saathi', 'Humshakal', 'Imitihan' and the most successful of them all, 'Haathi Mere Saathi'.

She was among the rare heroines who smoked but did not hide the ever-burning cigarette in her hand, and never disguised her whiskey in a bottle of Coca Cola, like most heroines of '60s did. Tanu had acquired this boldness from her grandmother who was as open about her relationship with Motilal. This openness did cause her heartbreaks but she finally settled down in marriage with Shomu Mukherjee. The marriage was certainly stormy and when she played the wife of a busy journalist in 'Anubhav' there were comparisons. Tanuja happily shifted to character roles. Her daughter Kajol, the third generation of actress, continues the tradition.

Rajnikant

Is he merely a mega star? People unfamiliar with the intricate ways Tamil films, its popularity and its sway over politics would wonder.

T. Balachander, who introduced Rajnikant as a villian, was fascinated with his eyes. But what catapulted Rajnikant to the heights of Tamil cinema is his overt expression of style.

This carpenter-turned-coolie-turned-megastar, Shivaji Rao Gaikwad (his original name) is a Maharastrian who could not even speak Tamil at one time, has seen hunger and the ecstasy of unprecedented success. "There was a time when all I wanted from life was a Vespa scooter, a packet of Wills filter cigarettes and a one-bedroom flat. That, I thought, was the ultimate happiness," he recollects. "And then suddenly, I was showered with name, fame and money. I had everything I had never even dared to desire. I had much more than what I wanted. But it gave me no happiness. It shattered even my illusions. My needs, I suddenly realised, were not as simple as a scooter or a pack of Wills filter cigarettes or a car or a bungalow. The problem was much more severe."

Rajnikant may not be good-looking enough to be called a star, but the lower-classes of Tamil Nadu see themselves in him, and that is what makes him incomparable. That a person of Mani Rathnam's stature made a movie, Dalpathi' with him starring, should indicate his control over the masses. But for the tides in his life, which took him to great fortune, he might have, with some difficulty, become an extra.

Four years after he got his first break in South Indian films, he had a nervous breakdown. At a time when he should have been on top of the world, he was in hospital. "I couldn't come to terms with my success. I took to drinking. I used to work eighteen hours a day and the rest of the time, I only drank and drank. There came a stage when even one bottle was not enough. It did nothing for me. From one bottle, it became one and a half. Even that didn't do the trick. I started taking drugs. I began with mandrax and then went on to charas, ganja and even cigarettes containing zarda. I used to consume at least thirty-five to forty packets of jarda in a day. I was driving myself to the breaking point, but I couldn't stop myself. Nothing interested me enough to pull me out of this rut. Till the nervous breakdown. I broke loose."He was hospitalised for six months and that brought him back to his senses.

Thereafter, he concentrated solely on his career. He was never into acting for the sake of art. It was only the money that lured him. "I have never pretended to be concerned or bothered about aesthetics in film making," he maintains.

But work hard he did. And now he plans to retire from acting and enter into politics. "I would not deny the fact that there are several attempts to induct me into politics. But I have made enough money out of acting. Why should I join politics? If it is to serve the people, I am of the opinion that first, you should serve yourself and your family and friends and only later on should you think of serving others." Some say that even the legendary M.G.R could not have matched Rajnikant's magnetism.

Rajni is one of the few south Indian heroes who successfully crossed over to the North. Andha Kannon , Giraftarr, Chal Baaz , Gangwa etc speak for his success in Bollywood.

He is rare phenomenon in terms of commercial success of films. Even Amitabh Bachchan, the super star of Indian cinema, has given flops. But Rajni’s films never flop in box-office. What is the secret of his enviable success? Critics attribute his success to his mysterious ability (whatever may be the role he enacts on the screen) to identify with the common folk.

In 1999, Rajni completed 25 years in cinema. The Government of Indian in recognition of his outstanding contribution conferred on him Padmabhushan the same year.

She had set up a Natya Vihar Kalakendra, name institution which was dedicated to create, spread and present the age old Indian mythological themes from the epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata and other ancient scriptures through the medium of dance. She is the second South Indian actress after the most successful Actress Vyayantimala to become a major Hindi film star. She is Bollywood Actress and also a Bharatanatyam Dancer who starred in several successful Bollywood films. Ironically, Hema's career almost ended before it began in the year1964. Her first director Sridhar threw her out of his Tamil film, which he was directing, saying that she had no star appeal. Hema resolved and persistely found her nice in Bollywood where she has make it the biggest. In the year 1968, she enters into the Indian Cinema and started her film career with playing a young teen opposite the Ageing Superstar “Raj Kapoor” in the film “SAPNON KA SAUDAGAR” (The Dream Seller).
After this film Hema was allotted the title of "Dream Girl". In the year 1970, she was most notably in the extreme successful flim “SHOLAY”. She had a glorious reign on the position of a leading actress during the year of 1970's. In the year 1972 she had won an Award by the Filmfare for Best Actress for the film “SEETA AUR GEETA”. But in the early year of 1980's, she decided to concentrate on 'character' roles and not on those roles, which are feminist undertones. Her career took off, and she became one of the reigning divas of the Bollywood film industry. Her fans called her “The Dream Girl of Boyllwood” through an allusion from her first film. She starred in many movies and her appearance was perhaps best to be remembered for her good Qualities such as glamour, style, and accomplished classical dancing etc.
Hemaji had formed a hit pair with Dharmendra and they both gave a number of hit movies. She also achieved some strong dramatic and comic moments in films like “LAL PATTHAR”, “SEETA AUR GEETA”, “SHOLAY”, “MEERA” and “SATTE – PE – SATTA”. She tried her hand in the occupation of directing and came out with the films in the year 1992 named as “DIL AASHNA HAI” which featured an all-star cast including King of bollywood Mr. Shahrukh khan and the late Divya Bharti. She also directed and starred in the TV Serial named “Noopur”in the year 1990, in which she was depicted as a Bharatanatyam dancer going to America. In the year 2000 she was awarded the by “PADMA SHRI”. After having a back seat from films for a number of years, she had gave recently a come back from the successful film “BAGHBAN” in which she co-starred with Amitabh Bachhan and played a cameo role and again with Amitabh Bachhan in the year 2004 blockbuster “VEER – ZAARA”. In both films, she played a beautiful , self-possessed, middle-aged married woman rather than the ingénue role of her earlier career.FILMOGRAPHY:

Rishi kapoor

Thursday, December 15, 2011

Rishi Kapoor was born on September 4, 1952 in Mumbai.

He is the second son of famous film director and star Raj Kapoor. His brothers are well-known actors: Randhir Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor. Rishi is the paternal uncle of today's actresses Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. Rishi married actress Neetu Singh, with whom he had several hit movies, in 1980. They have two children named Ranbir Kapoor and Ridhima Kapoor.

Rishi had always wanted to act. Family members remember him posing in front of the mirror and trying out various expressions, even as a child. Despite winning the National Award for his performances in 'Mera Naam Joker', Rishi had to struggle to convince his father, Raj Kapoor to cast him as the hero in 'Bobby'. For the film, Rishi went into an agonizing diet to lose weight along with co-star Dimple.

And with his subsequent films like 'Raffoo Chakkar', 'Khel Khel Mein' and 'Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin', Rishi became famous as the eternal lover. However, this was the era of action and Amitabh Bachchan. Even his film, 'Laila Majnu', in 1977, which became a great success, went unrewarded. But with films like 'Sargam' in 1979 and 'Karz' in 1980, Rishi had the nation swinging to his energetic dance numbers.

His marriage to Neetu Singh was seen as the reason for his fans suddenly deserting him. Despite hits like 'Prem Rog' in 1982, Rishi Kapoor found the spotlight shifting away from him.

However, with films like 'Nagina', Rishi bounced back. 'Chandni' in 1989, a Yash Chopra hit, saw him back in the reckoning. His romantic success continued into the '90s with 'Henna' and 'Bol Radha Bol'. Considered to be the indusrty's oldest romantic, the audience still don't want to see Rishi in any other light.

Padmini Kolhapure (Indian Film Actor)

ABOUT HER SELF :

Nickname: Pandi
Country: India
Father: classical singer
Siblings: younger sister Tejaswini , elder sister Shivangi
Children: two children, son Priyank
Marital status: married
Spouse: producer Tutu Sharma
Ex-spouse: Pradeep Sharma
Other facts: Padmini Kolhapure was 'discovered' by Raj Kapoor
Occupation: bollywood actress / runs her own acting school
Debut Film: Zindagi
Languages: hindi, english

Barely in her early 30s, perhaps she’s much too young to be featured in a nostalgia column. But then what do you do if she set off on her on-screen journey at the tender age of seven and from a child artiste went on to become a full-fledged heroine by the age of 17, essayed some of the most powerful roles in Hindi cinema — from a young widow to a courageous rape victim -- won loads of critical acclaim as well as public adulation and then chucked it all by the time she was 22, to settle down with the man she loved?

She is Lata Mangeshkar's niece. Padmini Kolhapure, the apple of Raj Kapoor’s eye, was a born actress. Her meteoric rise proved beyond a doubt, talent not beauty, is what mattered. Her sudden exit at the height of popularity broke the hearts of her fans and had producers and critics clucking in despair.

The actress par-excellence, takes time off her busy domestic schedule and flashbacks to the early ’80s when this simple homely girl reigned supreme...

Hailing from a middle-class Maharashtrian family, her dad, a classical singer, still teaches music, “and insists on travelling by the public transport.” Her mom quit her airlines job to be her full-time chaperone and is rather fond of cooking. And as they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating — Padmini’s mom gives us katoris of wafting hot phirni that she’s specially made for her grandson. Slurping the dessert, Padmini relates, “We are related to the Mangeshkar family, my dadiji was Pt. Dinanath Mangeshkar’s sister. My grand-dad, Krishnarao Kolhapure, was a stage artiste of acclaim. He worked with Pt Dinanath in the same theatre group. In those days, men played the female roles too. The three of us sisters have been named after three famous characters that dadaji had played — Padmini, Shivangi and Tejasvini. Music and acting runs in my blood, so to say,” she smiles.

Padmini and her elder sister Shivangi started singing in chorus alongside Didi atya (Lata Mangeshkar) and Asha atya (Asha Bhosle).

The Kolhapure sisters then graduated to solo playback singing. “We’d sung, Aa, aa, ee, ee, masterji ki aa gaye chithi... in Gulzar’s Kitaab. Funnily enough, he remembered that during the recently held Screen awards ceremony which Shivangi and I attended together. We were tickled pink by the memory,” she laughs.

Baby Padmini was a much-in-demand child artiste in those days. She recalls that when she shot for Dream Girl, they were all Babies and Masters then — Master Alankar, Master Bunty, Baby Chintu, Baby Madhoo and Baby Padmini. The film was partly shot in the US at Disneyland and Los Angeles. “All of us kids, had a real blast during that shoot. At one point of time the film had almost slipped out of hands when the producer refused to let our parents accompany us. But things were resolved amicably when my mom took her airlines pass and flew down with me,” she beams happily.

The child-woman then took the nation by storm in BR Chopra’s rape saga Insaaf Ka Taraazu. Her innocent face and spontaneous performance struck the right chord. Her bold and no-holds barred performance was appreciated and lauded but it also exposed her to the glare of publicity. The uncalled for media attention embarrassed the fledgling actress no end. “It was a brilliant role and I didn’t think twice before grabbing it. I found nothing objectionable in the script. So, after the release of the film I was really hurt by the derogatory comments passed about my role, accusing me of resorting to pornography. It made me so wary of bad publicity that I even turned down RK’s Ram Teri Ganga Maili because it had one intimate scene and a kissing shot. I didn’t want to invite the ire of the media again,” she says. Once bitten, twice shy — what was her loss turned out to be Mandakini’s gain.

After a gap of a couple of years, the talented teenager returned to the movies as a full-fledged heroine opposite Rishi Kapoor in Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai. The film flopped but gave a major fillip to her nascent career. “When Nasir Husain signed me up as the heroine, Rajji heard the news and called me up promptly. ‘You are a grown-up now,’ he observed and asked me to play the lead in Prem Rog — the film was initially being directed by Jainendra Jain. I was a wee bit disappointed because, I was looking forward to working with Rajji again. But I consoled myself with the thought that working for the RK banner was a great honour. As luck would have it, Rajji took over the direction himself, eventually. This time though, he screen-tested me because he wanted to make sure I didn’t look too kiddish. I passed the test and we formed a mutual admiration society. As I said earlier, we vibed so well that we didn’t need words to communicate. He always called me ladki. ‘Tu to Meena Kumari ki maa hai, ladki,’ he would compliment me. I could hardly believe him. ‘Tu janti nahin tu kya cheez hai’, he would rebuke me gently,” Padmini recalls fondly.

Padmini completed a hat-trick of award-winning performances with Prem Rog. Aahista Aahista won her a special award, Insaaf Ka Taraazu fetched her the best supporting actress award and Prem Rog won her the coveted best actress trophy

Padmini names Saajan Bin Suhagan and Vidhaata as her most memorable films because those afforded her the opportunity to work with all-time greats like Nutan and Dilip Kumar, Sanjeev Kumar and Shammi Kapoor.

Tina Munim

Tina Munim had a successful Bollywood career during the late seventies and early eighties. She is married to Anil Ambani. She was discovered by Dev Anand. She represented India at the International Teen Princess contest at Aruba, and won the Miss Photogenic and Miss Bikini awards. In 1978 Dev Anand cast her in his film Des Pardes, which launched her film career. In 1980 Sunil Dutt launched his son Sanjay in his film debut "Rocky". Tina Munim was chosen as Sanjay's heroine. In the mid 1980s Munim made the conscious decision to put her Bollywood career on hiatus. She moved to California because she was desperate and her career was going down the drain.

She came to be knows as Sanjay Dutt's anchor during his drug phase, but when he repeatedly failed to kick the habit, she strayed towards Rajesh Khanna as they co-starred in 'Souten' (Chai Pe Bulaya Hai) and 'Fifty Fifty'.

In 1991 she returned to India and later married industrialist Anil Ambani. Today she is involved in a number of charity, arts, and talent endeavors and hasn't made any new film since the mid 1980s. She has two sons Jai Anmol and Jai Anshul.

Tina Munim was one of the first Indian beauty queens to follow their pageant career with acting in Bollywood.

Shah showed interest in an acting career from his childhood. He graduated from the National School of Drama in 1973 and enrolled in the Film and Television Institute of India the same year.

After watching Geoffrey Kendall's theatre group, Shakespeareana perform at his school, Naseeruddin Shah was very impressed with the art of acting. He joined the Pune Film Institute and in 1975, Shyam Benegal offered him 'Nishaant'. His debut film was followed by several supporting roles in Shyam Benegal's films. His major break through came with 'Junoon' in 1979 where he played the character of a hotheaded revolutionary and with 'Aakrosh' as the activist lawyer. His subsequent films, 'Masoom', 'Khandhan', 'Paar', 'Katha', `Sparsh` and 'Pestonjee' established him as an actor par excellence.

However his stint with commercial cinema in films like 'Tridev', 'Mohra', and 'Najayaz' did not make much demand on his talent. And today, Naseeruddin Shah is busy doing theatre and also teaching at acting workshops. His recent performance in `Sarfarosh` as a muslim with divided loyality has come in for a lot of praise.

His wife Ratna Pathak Shah and daughter Heeba Manara Shah have also graduated from the National School of Drama (1981 and 1999 batches respectively).

He retained his Muslim name and did not adapt a Hindu screen name which was done by some popular actors, most notably Dilip Kumar) owing to a promise he made to his father.

Jayaprada

Jayaprada was born as Lalita Rani in a middle class household to Krishna and Neelavani in Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh on April 3, 1962. Jayaprada was a small town girl with dreams of becoming a doctor. Her mother enrolled her in dance and music classes when she was seven years old, in addition to going to a regular school. Even though, her father and uncle were film financiers, her initial break into films didn't come through them. Jayaprada was discovered dancing on stage at a school function when she was just fourteen years old. Character actor Prabhakar Reddy gave her the name of Jayaprada and introduced her in a three minute song in the Telugu film, "Bhoomi Kosam" (1976). Jayaprada was a star in that film industry before she tried the break into Bollywood.

Jayaprada's classic features, a flawless peach complexion and incredible nose coupled with a quiet aristocratic demeanor made her a favorite star of 1980s Indian Popular Cinema. Jaya Prada debuted in "Sargam", which was also her breakthrough performance opposite Rishi Kapoor.
During the 80s Jayaprada and Jeetendra had a successful on screen chemistry.

The only excitement came from her personal life when she met her husband film producer Srikant Nahata. They started out as friends as he was already a married man with children. But it turned into love when he stood by her because of her income tax problems. Jayaprada was branded the "other woman," especially since Nahata wouldn't leave his wife. So she ended up marrying him in 1986, and he has continued to be married to both women.

Jayaprada didn't forget her first love, dancing, and did a dance ballet in 2005 that won her great acclaim. Having three careers (acting, dancing, politics), and a husband, left her no time to have children of her own, even though she has expressed a desire to have children. So far, she has shown no desire to give up her three careers and in fact, stated that she'll be as hardworking and dedicated in the future as she is now.

Jayaprada has acted in seven languages: Telugu (her mother tongue), Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, and Marathi.

Jayaprada said that the only autograph she has ever taken in her life has been from her inspiration, Mother Theresa.

Jayaprada entered into politics by joining Telugu Desam party. Jayaprada was nominated to be an MP in Rajyasabha by TDP party. Following differences with party Supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu, she left TDP to join Samajwadi Party and contested from Rampur parliamentary Constituency in UP during the last General election in 2004. Jayaprada won the election with the slogan line, "Andhra is my janambhoomi but Uttar Pradesh is my karmbhoomi."

Jayaprada also didn't have any major films lined up. Jayaprada also started making films playing stronger, mature roles. But Jayaprada kept up with her many social and humanitarian causes, especially related to poor women and children.

She also owns the Jaya Prada Theater in Chennai.
